Forest Road Day Surgery is situated in the heart of Hurstville, a bustling suburb just south of Sydney’s CBD. By car

There are over 200 parking spaces in the building complex (once you enter the car park, follow the blue and yellow Vision Eye Institute signs). Street parking is also available on Forest Road and Durham Street (please check the parking signs – a 2-hour limit generally applies).

By public transport

Serving Sydney and surrounding areas, bus routes 452 (Beverly Hills to Rockdale via Kingsway West Shops, Hurstville and Bexley) and 453 (Percival Street to Rockdale) depart the city approximately every 20 minutes and stop at the corner of Forest Road and Hudson St (approx. 1-minute walk to our location).

You can also reach the clinic via the T4 (Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra) train line. Allawah Station is located at the end of Roberts Lane, approximately 7 minutes walk away, and Hurstville Station is located at the end of Ormond Parade, approximately 10 minutes’ walk away.

Disability access

Our Sydney day surgery is located on the ground level and is easily accessible by people with limited mobility. There is also lift access from the car park.

    Forest Road Day Surgery was designed after comprehensive consultation with patients and surgeons regarding various aspects of the facility – from the colour scheme to furniture selection (including patient trolleys) to spatial requirements in the theatre, laser and recovery areas. Our waiting areas even feature special acoustic treatments to ensure a quiet and calm environment for patients and carers.

  • How easy is it to get to Forest Road Day Surgery for patients across NSW?

    Forest Road Day Surgery is located within Hurstville’s East Quarter development, with more than 200 secure parking spaces available in the building complex. Enter via 103 Forest Road and follow the blue and yellow Vision Eye Institute signs.

    Street parking is also available on Forest Road and Durham Street (please check the parking signs carefully as a 2-hour limit generally applies).

  • Are there any on-site facilities for my carer while they are waiting?

    Forest Road Day Surgery is located in the new East Quarter development, which features a number of retail outlets. In addition, Forest Road is one of the main commercial strips in Hurstville, and two major shopping centres (Westfield Hurstville and Hurstville Central) are less than 10 minutes from the clinic by foot. Buses also run regularly along Forest Road.

  • How do I prepare for my procedure at Forest Road Day Surgery?

    Please follow any pre-operative instructions provided by our team, including fasting requirements and bringing a support person. You can contact us directly if you have specific questions regarding your preparation.

  • What type of post-operative care is available after surgery?

    Our clinical team will provide you with all necessary post-operative instructions and arrange any required post-surgery appointments to ensure you have a smooth recovery.

  • Is Forest Road Day Surgery an accredited day procedure centre?

    Forest Road Day Surgery is a fully accredited facility that meets the requirements of the National Safety and Quality Health Services Standards.

    Our surgery is purpose-built for ophthalmic surgery, with a fully equipped operating theatre, on-site sterile services department, private spacious recovery areas and a highly skilled clinical and administrative team.

  • How long will I be at Forest Road Day Surgery on the day of my procedure?

    At Forest Road Day Surgery, we provide a variety of surgical procedures that do not require an overnight hospital stay.

    Some surgeries take longer to perform than others and this will impact how long you are at Forest Road Day Surgery. However, you can generally expect to be at Forest Road Day Surgery for approximately 2–3 hours, depending on your recovery.

  • What happens on the day of surgery at Forest Road Day Surgery?

    Before you arrive:

    • If you are required to fast, please follow any instructions you have been given, particularly if you have diabetes – if you are unsure, please check with our staff
    • Take your usual medications as normal (with a small sip of water), unless advised otherwise by your doctor
    • Remove nail polish, false eyelashes and contact lenses
    • Wash your face thoroughly with your usual face soap – do not wear any face moisturiser, cream or make-up
    • If you wear glasses, bring a case to put them in
    • Remove all jewellery (you may wear your wedding band if it is difficult to remove)
    • Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes – you may be required to change into a hospital gown (you do not need to bring pyjamas or a dressing gown)
    • Bring the original copy of your completed paperwork (if you did not return it by post)
    • Bring a list of all the medications you are currently taking
    • Bring your Medicare card
    • If you have private health insurance, bring your health fund membership card
    • Bring your payment (if applicable)
    • Do not bring any valuable items with you – our day surgeries do not accept responsibility for any lost or damaged items
    • Bring some reading material if you wish (magazines, TV and complimentary WiFi are available in our waiting area)
    • Give your carer a copy of the contact details for your day surgery, including instructions on how to find it and where to park

    If you are unable to attend your scheduled procedure (e.g. you are ill), please notify your day surgery immediately.

    When you arrive:

    On arrival, check in at reception with a member of our admissions team. Please make sure to arrive on time.

    You will also be required to pay for your account on the day; this includes any applicable health fund co-payments or excess. Uninsured patients are responsible for the total account.

    One of our admission nurses will then begin preparing you for surgery and guide you to one of our comfortable waiting areas. Magazines, TV and free WiFi will be available in the waiting area. If you have any existing skin wounds, cuts or abrasions, please inform a member of our day surgery staff.

    While we are preparing for your surgery, you will also receive a visit from your anaesthetist if applicable.

  • What if I can’t make my appointment?

    If you cannot make your appointment, please get in touch with Forest Road Day Surgery as soon as possible to reschedule your procedure date.

    Please provide notice as early as possible so we can reschedule your appointment as quickly as we can, and so that your original appointment time can be offered to another patient waiting for surgery.

  • Do you offer bulk billing at Forest Road Day Surgery?

    Medicare does not fully rebate the cost of private eye surgery and there will be excess charges.

    If you have health insurance, your insurer may cover this additional cost. Check with your private health insurer directly to find out if your level of cover includes rebates for eye surgery.

Ophthalmology

Dr Jason Cheng is a glaucoma specialist, having completed two glaucoma subspecialty fellowships, and is actively involved in research projects in this area. Dr Cheng is also a highly experienced cataract surgeon.

Dr Christopher Go is a subspecialised vitreoretinal ophthalmologist with extensive experience in the medical and surgical management of retinal and macular disorders. He offers care for conditions including epiretinal membrane, macular holes and macular degeneration, as well as retinal vein occlusions, retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease and floaters.

Ophthalmology

Dr Tess Huynh has over 16 years of experience as a cataract, corneal and refractive surgeon, including routine and complex cataract surgery, corneal cross-linking, pterygium surgery and corneal transplantation. Dr Huynh performs LASIK, SMILE and ASLA laser eye surgery and also treats more general eye conditions.

Dr Michael Wei is a highly experienced ophthalmologist who specialises in retinal and macular disorders, and has subspecialty fellowships in both medical retina and vitreoretinal surgery. He has expertise in complex vitreoretinal conditions, intravitreal injections, retinal laser treatment, and complex cataract surgery. Dr Wei is fluent in Mandarin and Hokkien/Taiwanese dialects.
