A double celebration for Windsor Gardens Day Surgery

Windsor Gardens Day Surgery (WGDS) celebrated not just one but two very special milestones recently – the facility turned 5 AND admitted its 10,000th patient!

10,000th patient surprised but delighted

When Julie Spencer attended WGDS for cataract surgery, performed by Vision Eye Institute ophthalmologist Dr Soo Khai Ng, she had no idea she would become part of a landmark moment for the centre.

Julie says her experience at WGDS was brilliant.

‘I was very happy with the modern facility and the staff were very friendly – everything was explained to me.’ – Julie Spencer

Dr Ng, who has been operating at WGDS for 4 years, also shared his excitement about the milestone.

‘I feel very privileged to have operated on WGDS’s 10,000th patient. WGDS is a state-of-the-art facility for performing ophthalmic surgery, equipped with the latest technology and instruments. I’ve been very satisfied with my experience there,’ he says.

From strength to strength

Vision Hospital Group General Manager for South Australia, Gideon Sinclair, says the architect-designed, 3-theatre day surgery has gone from strength to strength since opening its doors in 2019 as part of the 480 Specialist Centre development on North East Road.

‘We get a lot of feedback from patients about how caring our team is, which is wonderful to hear. Our goal is to remove the stress and anxiety that can come with having surgery and make the experience for both the patient and their family as simple and positive as possible. It certainly helps having a great facility, and being co-located with our surgeons is so convenient for our patients,’ he says.

Anne Sciacca, WGDS Director of Nursing, has headed the day surgery’s team since its inception. Its success, she says, can be attributed to the staff and surgeons’ unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.

‘I feel privileged to lead a team that genuinely cares for each and every patient that come through our doors.  WGDS patients come from diverse backgrounds and cultures, and we take pride in supporting them through the perioperative journey in a respectful manner. It’s always nice to hear patients say they would recommend us to their family and friends,’ she says.

A specialist environment

Alongside its reputation for providing exceptional patient care, WGDS is known for delivering a seamless operating experience for visiting specialists.

Dr Ng says that the expertly managed environment at WGDS allows him to relax and focus on his patients. ‘The clinical and administrative teams are second to none, and always go above and beyond to make sure the process flows smoothly for patients and surgeons,’ he says.

‘This allows me to provide the best of care to my patients with ease. Plus, it makes every operating session enjoyable and relaxing, even when dealing with the most complex surgical cases.’

‘As a matter of fact, I always look forward to my operating session at WGDS.’ – Dr Soo Khai Ng

Over the years, the facility has focused on expanding its services to support additional ophthalmic procedures and specialties. It also caters for a range of other specialties, including gastroenterology, dermatology, plastic surgery, urology, oral and maxillofacial surgery and dental surgery.
