Vision Hospital Group welcomes new National Director of Nursing

Vision Hospital Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Kylie Bennett to the pivotal role of National Director of Nursing.

Ms Bennett first joined us in January 2022 as National Quality and Risk Manager. ‘Quality improvement has been a passion of mine since I became responsible for it in a former role – and having the opportunity to continue working in that capacity at Vision Hospital Group has been an extremely rewarding experience,’ she said.

The recent move to National Director of Nursing has allowed Ms Bennett to reflect on what she enjoys about managing clinical teams, which was a feature of her career before her time at Vision Hospital Group. ‘I was previously Director of Clinical Services at St Vincent’s Private Hospital in New South Wales – a position that I held for over 7 years. Since taking on the National Director of Nursing role here at Vision Hospital Group, I’ve relished the opportunity to lead teams again and enact positive change, while still retaining oversight and management of the quality system – it allows me to combine the best of everything I enjoy in management.’

Ms Bennett said there are several aspects of Vision Hospital Group’s culture that make it a great place to work. ‘Aside from being part of such a well-structured service provider, it’s been wonderful getting to know so many extremely knowledgeable people. And a real feature of Vision Hospital Group is the professionalism with which it conducts its processes, from research to marketing, business development and patient engagement – so it’s been very fulfilling to be part of this organisation.’

There is also a strong emphasis on ongoing professional development, said Ms Bennett. ‘Vision Hospital Group is very focused on the development of its people, and there are numerous opportunities for staff to visit different facilities and learn from each other. I think I’m a perfect example of the organisation’s commitment to giving people opportunities to step up into new roles, and I am very grateful for that.’

In terms of career advice that she’s been given over the journey, Ms Bennett recalled some wise words that have stayed with her: that it’s OK to not have all of the answers at any given moment, that trust and respect are earned, and that it’s important to always have something to look forward to away from work.

Speaking of activities outside of work, Ms Bennett said that she has particularly enjoyed her move to Brisbane. ‘There is so much to experience here – the theatre, concerts and sporting events are all now at my doorstep, and I’m loving it! I also have a passion to continue to see the world.’
