Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  • What is day surgery?

Day surgery refers to planned surgical procedures where patients are admitted and discharged on the same day. There is no overnight stay required. It’s a safe, efficient model of care that is well-suited to a wide range of ophthalmic procedures.

  • Do services differ by location?

Yes – the procedures and specialties available vary between our two Sydney day surgery facilities. To confirm what’s available near you, visit the Chatswood Day Surgery or Forest Road Day Surgery pages, or contact our team directly.

  • What should I bring on the day of surgery?

Bring photo identification, your Medicare and private health insurance cards, a list of any current medications, and a valid form of payment for any outstanding accounts. We also recommend wearing comfortable, loose clothing.

Your information pack will include any additional instructions specific to your procedure.

  • Do I need someone to take me home?

In most cases, yes. If your procedure involves sedation or a general anaesthetic, you will not be able to travel home unaccompanied. Your surgeon will confirm the requirements for your specific procedure ahead of time.

  • Where can I find parking and transport information?

Parking and transport details vary by location. Visit the Chatswood Day Surgery or Forest Road Day Surgery pages for specific information on getting there by car or public transport, as well as disability access.

  • Does Medicare cover the cost of cataract surgery or will there be a gap payment?

Some, but not all, of the costs of cataract surgery are covered by Medicare and if you have private health insurance your insurer will also cover some of the cost (depending on the type of cover you have). The gap payment will depend on several factors, including your level of private health cover and the replacement lens option you choose. We’ll go through all costs clearly at the time of your appointment.

  • How do I pay? Do you offer payment plans?

You will need to pay for your surgery in full prior to your procedure. We accept all payment types including cash, credit card and direct deposit.

Alternatively you could look into early release of your superannuation to cover some of the costs such as Australian Taxation Office’s ‘Early access to super’ (contact the ATO directly).

We offer buy now, pay later options for cataract surgery through SurgeryAssist in partnership with Humm* Loan – speak to our friendly clinic team for more information.
